Developer Louis R. Cappelli of Sullivan Resorts LLC announced he will share with Foxwoods Resort Casino and Muss Development some of the acreage he owns at the former Grossinger’s Resort in New York’s Catskill Mountains to develop a casino resort. Cappelli also is seeking a gaming license to build a casino at the former Concord Resort, and the Foxwoods group already owns adjacent property in Liberty and hopes to acquire a gaming license there.
Regarding the Grossinger’s property, Cappelli said, “Working together with Foxwoods Catskills LLC, we have come to an agreement that will allow us to develop the two parcels of this magnificent 1,200 acre site in a complimentary way, and not in competition with one another. This agreement will provide a better experience for future homeowners and resort casino visitors, and it will enable us to maximize economic benefits for Liberty, and to create thousands of jobs for residents of Sullivan and Delaware Counties.” He pointed out the projects are viewed as complimentary and not contingent upon the other.
The agreement includes a long-term lease for additional property and allows users of both projects to share the golf course and lake.
