At least one Las Vegas Strip resort company has a plan to reinstate parking fees: MGM Resorts International. Paid parking will resume shows and events at T-Mobile Arena, Park MGM, New York-New York, Aria, MGM Grand, Excalibur, Luxor and Mandalay Bay. The fees range from $15 to $18 per day. Free parking continues at Virgin Hotels, Treasure Island, Circus Circus, the Sahara, the Strat, the Tropicana and Wynn Resorts Ltd. and Las Vegas Sands Corp. properties. Caesars will continue free for Nevada residents, and the Cosmopolitan will continue free parking “at this time.” ● A note in Australia’s 2021 federal budget said inbound and outbound international travel “is expected to remain low through to mid-2022, after which gradual recovery in international tourism is assumed to occur.” Prime Minister Scott Morrison previously raised hopes that the borders would reopen in October, but a slow vaccine rollout has caused delays. Presently, Australians may only travel through the Trans-Tasman travel bubble with New Zealand, opened in April. ● Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, California has a new restaurant, the 1882 Cantina, which features flavors from Mexico and Central and South America. In 1882, U.S. President Chester A. Arthur reestablished a government-to-government relationship with the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians United States and set aside 4,000 acres for the tribe’s reservation. ● Sports Illustrated will use properties like Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City and Hard Rock Florida’s Guitar Hotel as the backdrop for its photos for its 2021 Swimsuit Issue. Due to coronavirus-related travel restrictions, the publication opted to stay in the U.S. for this year’s shoots. ● Delta Corp., India’s only listed casino operator, has shut its casino in Sikkim due to a surge of Covid-19 in the state. The company was also forced to close its properties in Goa, and said it is unable to assess the financial impact at this time. The Sikkim casino was due to remain closed until May 16. ● Casinos and bingo halls are expected to reopen May 17 in England and Scotland, after closing last year in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. Regional closures last year morphed into a national lockdown in the beginning of 2021. ● Caesars Entertainment has partnered with the Arizona Diamondbacks to offer sports betting. Caesars will develop a mobile app through William Hill, and a retail sportsbook and sports bar next to Chase Field, the team’s home stadium in Phoenix. Caesars CEO Tom Reeg said in a statement: “Together, we have the opportunity to create new ways for baseball fans to engage with the game both in-person near the ballpark and online anywhere in Arizona.” • The Shoshone Rose Casino and Hotel near Lander, Wyoming reopened May 7 after being closed for more than a year. According to Hospitality Manager Jamie Williams, the restaurant and conference room would stay closed temporarily. Masking will be required for all.
