The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) has agreed to spend $2.25 for sponsorship rights for the NBA’s inaugural in-season tournament this December. The tournament encompasses all 30 NBA franchises, and the semifinals and finals of the event will take place December 7 and 9, respectively. The games will be played at T-Mobile Arena, home of the Stanley Cup champion Las Vegas Golden Knights. • The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has given preliminary approval for a proposed 699-foot skyscraper that, if approved, would be built on the site of the Casino Royale on the Strip. If constructed, the tower would be the third-tallest structure in the city, behind the Strat and the under-construction Fontainebleau. The FAA’s approval is valid through January 21, 2025, meaning a new study must be conducted if the building is not constructed by then. • The Baden-Württemberg Constitutional Court has ruled against gaming operators in Karlsruhe and Rastatt who challenged the state’s interpretation of the State Treaty on Gambling. The law forbids betting venues and gaming halls operating in the same building, iGaming Business reported August 7. The plaintiffs unsuccessfully argued that the law conflicted with constitutional guarantees of professional freedom and violated principles of equality.The court said the law serves the public good, and noted its possible effect on gambling addiction by preventing players from moving from one gaming hall to another in rapid succession.
