The Macau Jockey Club, which will close April 1, has informed horse owners they must surrender their animals to the operator for free or face monthly charges to keep them at the venue until they are moved. The track will cease racing operations, with land reverting to the city for other purposes. ● ICE 2024’s Consumer Protection Zone has raised $52,000 for two charities, the International Center for Responsible Gambling and Betblocker. Contributors included Light & Wonder, Flutter, Betsson Group, IGT, Novomatic, Neccton and Playtech. ● On February 6, the Navajo Nation marked the second anniversary of the 2021 Air is Life Act. The legislation ensured clean, smoke-free air inside more than 150 tribal casinos. ● Since 2019, Macau’s hotel room inventory has grown by double digits, adding more than 7,000 rooms and 20 hotels over four years. Copper Sun, featuring Inner Mongolian cuisine with a twist, will open this summer. ● Southland Casino Hotel in West Memphis, Arkansas, has completed a $320 million expansion that makes it the largest casino in the Mid-South. The resort now features a 20-story hotel with 300 rooms, 12 penthouse suites, a 113,000-square-foot gaming floor and a variety of on-site bars and restaurants. ● On February 15, the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian Las Vegas will host the 13th annual “Chinese New Year in the Desert” ceremony, the official beginning of Lunar holiday celebrations in the city. The event will include a lion blessing, dynamic cultural performances and more in St. Mark’s Square.
