The Nez Perce Tribe recently purchased the Clarkston Golf and Country Club in Washington State and is considering whether it wants to offering gaming there.
Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee Chairman Shannon Wheeler, who spoke to about 150 people attending the biannual General Council meeting, said the purchase of land in the state means the tribe could negotiate a tribal state gaming compact with Washington.
It would mean installing slot machines off the existing reservation, but several other tribes in the state have done so by obtaining a special waiver from the Bureau of Indian Affairs and persuading the governor to agree.
With the waiver, the tribe would be able to install more than 1,000 slot machines. Some at the golf course and some at Zims Hot Springs New Meadows, also a recent purchase.
All of these proposals are in the very earliest stage of development, said Wheeler.
