The National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA) hosted its annual mid-year conference in the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown last week, where one of the top panels was “Native Women Influencers and Trailblazers in Gaming,” which continued the topic from the Indian Gaming 2017 Tradeshow and Convention.
Another woman-led session included “Promoting and Empowering the Growth in Women in Your Organization.” Other sessions included “Emergency & Fire Prevention” and “Conducting Safety Inspections Like a Pro.”
The session on “Human Trafficking Awareness in Indian Country” shared case studies from Indian reservations and was followed by “Best Practices in the Prevention of Human Trafficking,” which noted that traffickers often obtain their victims on casino properties.
The keynote luncheon closed out the Human Trafficking Awareness with Monica Lynn Antone, Lt. Governor of the Gila River Indian Community, who is a member of the Arizona State Domestic Violence Commission and who talked about “Tribal Leaders Addressing Human/Sex Trafficking.”
