Nigeria Sees Lottery as ‘Wealth Generator’

Nigeria is looking to its National Lottery and gaming industries for new jobs and a funding source for education.
According to Yogonet Gaming News, Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs Zephaniah Jisalo believes the industries can jointly create millions of employment opportunities in the country.

“Lottery is a wealth generator,” Jisalo said. “The industry has generated quite a large number of jobs for Nigerians in the last few years, a number that is likely to grow to over 10 million due to the population and size of the Nigerian economy.”

Jisalo made the comments as part of Phase 2 of the “Back to School Jump Start Project,” a program developed with the support of the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF).

“The funding of the implementation of the second phase of this program by the National Lottery Trust Fund is meant to build on the successes of the first phase, ,” Jisalo said. “This has tremendously improved the standard of learning and provided an environment conducive for learning in public schools across Surulere Federal Constituency.”

NLTF Executive Secretary Bello Maigari added, “We are doing everything humanly possible to revitalize this industry, which holds great promise for Nigeria in raising enormous revenues, creating job opportunities for youths and (helping) actualize President Bola Tinubu-led government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
