NIKI Parkview Group to Bid on Nagasaki IR

The NIKI Chyau Fwu (Parkview) Group, a construction and development consortium based in Taiwan, has submitted a proposal for build and operation an integrated resort (IR) in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture.

“We have planned and designed a world-class integrated resort for Nagasaki,” said Etsuko Oishi, executive vice president of the NIKI. “We intend to attract premium tourists to Kyushu, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy and becoming a major IR in the Asia region. We look forward to working with local communities and local governments in the process to bring a world-leading facility to the region.”

He said Japanese companies “make up the majority” of the consortium and added that it but includes “companies from various countries alongside local Kyushu companies. Further, it includes a large number of world-leading overseas partners, including major IR operators.”

The company did not announce its casino partner. According to news accounts, the bidder wants to aid regional revitalization in Japan through a Kyushu/Nagasaki IR. If chosen, it will develop a super-smart community in Omura Bay that makes full use of cutting-edge technology.

Two other groups are also bidding on a Nagasaki IR: Oshidori Consortium and Casino Austria. The three candidates will each make a presentation in August with the final screening results announced in that same month.

In related news, according to Asia Gaming Brief, an anti-casino citizens’ group delivered a petition to the Nagasaki government last month, expressing its opposition to an IR in the vicinity.

The Stop Casino! Prefectural Citizens Network, founded in March 2019, collected more than 10,000 signatures of local residents opposed to the construction of the IR at Huis Ten Bosch.
