While most attention in Atlantic City last year was focused on the shutdown and reopening of the casino industry, events outside the casinos also came to a grinding halt at a time when warm-weather events like beach concerts and the Atlantic City Air Show dominate the Boardwalk. According to New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, this summer likely will be different.
Murphy told radio host Harry Hurley of WPG Talk Radio last week that if the state reaches its Covid-19 vaccination goal by the end of spring, it should mean that summer outdoor events will return in 2021.
Murphy said the state already has administered more than 1 million vaccines. “This is definitely forward progress, and it shows how we’re working to maximize every dose received from the federal government,” said Murphy, who added that beach activities and the Air Show going on is “a higher probability than something indoors. I think something can happen indoors, but I don’t think it will be back to where we’re all piled on top of each other watching a concert.”
