Stockton University will be the host of an esports Innovation Center in its Atlantic City campus. The New Jersey Economic Development Authority will provide $200,000 to fund the project, as well as staff.
“Esports is a large and rapidly growing industry that has the potential to provide significant economic benefits to communities throughout New Jersey,” said NJEDA Chief Executive Officer Tim Sullivan.
Esports has a worldwide market of more than $1 billion, according to Statista, a German consumer data company. Revenue could surpass $1.6 billion in 2024, according to CDC Gaming Reports.
Stockton University President Harvey Kesselman said the university was among the first in the nation to embrace esports and its role in entertainment. “We look forward to collaborating with public and private partners to make New Jersey a hub for esports innovation.”
New Jersey houses a number of esports companies like G3 esports, Amazon’s Twitch streaming service, and esports Entertainment Group.
