NLRB Issues Complaint Against California Casino

The National Labor Relations Board has cited Casino Pauma in San Diego County with violating rules against anti-union activity.

The National Labor Relations Board has issued a complaint against the Casino Pauma, a small Indian casino in San Diego County, California.

The board, pursuant to an investigation by its General Counsel, alleges that the casino has engaged in an unfair labor practice by threatening workers who wore buttons supporting organizing a union with disciplinary action unless they removed them.

Unite Here Local 30 has been attempting to organize the casino.  Last spring the union presented a petition signed by more than half of the available workers, but the tribe refused to recognize it.

According to one of the workers, quoted by the San Diego Free Press, “At the end of the day we want a fair process without the company intimidating us. Ever since I started working here I have not had any guarantee that I will not be fired without a good reason, and my job security is important to me. I have a medical condition so my job and medical benefits are very important to me.”
