Casino magnate Steve Wynn has come up with what he says is an overdue alternative to Las Vegas’s ubiquitous Cirque du Soleil shows. It’s called ‘ShowStoppers,’ and Wynn promises it won’t be the same-old-same-old.

A new entertainment revue backed by casino honcho Steve Wynn will “give ’em the old razzle-dazzle ,” Wynn promised during a recent interview with the Associated Press.

“We can’t just surrender to Cirque du Soleil,” said the Wynn Resorts chairman of seemingly endless variations of the circus-inspired extravaganzas. “How many shows can you stand of that stuff? Jumping, popping, swinging. I mean, enough already.”

Though Wynn built the first permanent home for a Cirque show at Treasure Island in Vegas and is a personal friend of Cirque’s founder, he says what the Strip really needs is a Broadway revue. His new show, “ShowStoppers,” will include 20 of Broadway’s greatest songs, performed to a 30-piece orchestra. The show’s home will be the 1,480-seat Encore theater.

“I’m not looking for the next Broadway show I can put here while it tours America. We’ve got to do our own thing here,” Wynn said.

Asked why he did hire a superstar to headline the show, the billionaire replied, “If you hire stars, they get all the money.”
