It’s no surprise given Atlantic City’s fading fortunes, but New Jersey Transit will not add new railway service to the shore resort.
Following a 2009 study commissioned under the Corzine administration, transit officials had considered adding to service and schedules for the rail line between Atlantic City and Philadelphia. But ABC 27 WHTM reports that 12 daily round-trip trains account for an average ridership of 3,450 per day, making it the least-traveled NJT rail route.
According to the Atlantic City Press, the Atlantic City rail line has struggled with low ridership and high annual operating deficits.
