North Carolina Offers Self-Exclusion Program

Ahead of the March 11 debut of sports betting in North Carolina, regulators kicked off a new voluntary gambling self-exclusion program. One application will block participants from accessing all gambling apps in the state.

North Carolina Offers Self-Exclusion Program

In anticipation of the March 11 launch of sports betting in North Carolina, the state Lottery Commission recently approved a new voluntary gambling self-exclusion program for residents. Online application forms are available now on the commission’s website, where North Carolinians can activate a self-exclusion feature that will block all account-based sports wagering and advance deposit wagering on horse races available through licensed operators in North Carolina.

The website notes self-exclusion is voluntary and no one can sign up another person for the program. Additionally, by completing just one application, participants will self-exclude from all licensed online gambling apps statewide. However, the program applies only to apps licensed in North Carolina; it won’t prevent users from accessing apps operating legally in other states or offshore websites.

Participants can self-exclude from gambling for one, three or five years, or for life. Also, applicants must submit additional photos for identification purposes.

North Carolina Lottery Deputy Executive Director for Gaming Compliance and Sports Betting Sterl Carpenter said preparations are going well for the March 11 sports betting launch.
