North Carolina Sports Betting Progresses

The North Carolina House has approved legislation calling for a study of the “feasibility” of regulated sports betting in the state. A newly formed North Carolina Gaming Commission would conduct the study and analyze the “positive and negative impacts” of sports betting.

A newly formed North Carolina Gaming Commission would conduct the study and analyze g the “positive and negative impacts” of sports betting and possible revenue and expenses it would generate.

The bill doesn’t explicitly mention mobile sports wagering platforms, the study would look at online betting as a whole is feasible for North Carolina.

The North Carolina Gaming Commission would be required to report its findings, including any proposed legislation, to the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on the State Lottery on or before Feb. 15, 2020.

The bill was approved by the state’s Senate in May. It now moves to the governor.

In another matter, a bill on the House floor calls for allowing the state’s two tribal casinos to add sportsbooks. The bill advanced to the House floor, but has still not gone to a vote. The state’s Senate approved the bill in February.

The bill would not allow the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians to offer online/mobile sports wagering.
