Just in time for the start of the National Football League regular season, the Catawba Nation recently opened a 24-hour sportsbook at its temporary casino in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, located near the South Carolina border.
The venue features 30 betting kiosks and wagering voucher redemption services. It’s the third sportsbook to open in the state; the other two opened in March 2021 at the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians’ casinos in Cherokee and Murphy.
Trent Troxel, Catawba Nation Gaming Authority vice president, said Catawba Two Kings hopes “a new audience in the Charlotte region and beyond will discover the casino as they come to wager on their favorite teams.”
The South Carolina-based Catawba Nation opened Two Kings in July 2021 and now offers 1,000 gaming machines including electronic table games.
The permanent casino resort is expected to be completed within two years, officials said. Part of the delay can be traced to a July 31 report in the Wall Street Journal indicating National Indian Gaming Commission regulators have expressed concerns about the distribution of the casino’s profits to outside backers instead of the tribe. Catawba Chief Bill Harris said he’s addressing those concerns.
