North Dakota Casino Planning Renovations

A "significant" renovation will start in 2015 at Dakota Magic Casino in Hankinson, North Dakota. Without naming a dollar amount, Chief Financial Officer Weston Quinn said the project will include additional gaming space with a circular bar, expanded nonsmoking gaming areas, a new casino entrance and a restaurant.

Dakota Magic Casino in Hankinson, North Dakota, is interviewing architects for a “significant” expansion project that will begin in 2015 and take one and a half years to complete, said Chief Financial Officer Weston Quinn. He did not elaborate on the cost or scope of the project. “It has to be done in phases because we don’t want any disruptions on the gaming floor,” Quinn said.

He noted most of the new space will be dedicated to gaming. In addition, the lounge will be expanded and a circular bar will be built in the center of the gaming floor. The casino’s nonsmoking gaming room also will be expanded, the casino will get a new entrance and a new restaurant may be added.

The upcoming renovation will be the final of several upgrades the casino has made in recent years. “In the last five years, we’ve actually done a lot to this property. We built a wastewater treatment plant and a water treatment plant. That was $10 million for those two things,” Quinn said. About three years ago 42 rooms were added to the hotel and more than 80 were renovated. A new administrative building also was built.

Anthony Bertino, corporate marketing officer, said, “We have 166 rooms now, so we have to increase our amenities.”
