Northwest Indiana Revenue Holding Steady

Riverboat casinos in Northwest Indiana, led by Boyd Gaming’s Blue Chip (l.), posted revenue numbers indicating they're stabilizing after taking a hit from legalized video gambling in Illinois bars and restaurants. April 2015 revenues were $83.6 million, down "only" 2.1 percent compared to April 2014, a recent report showed.

A recent report indicated casino revenues in Northwest Indiana have declined by a smaller percentage in 2015 compared to 2014 on a per-month basis. As a result, seems to be stabilizing following the authorization of video gambling in Illinois restaurants and bars, which affected attendance at the Indiana riverboat casinos.

The report showed in April 2015, Northwest Indiana casinos posted total revenue of $83.6 million, a decline of 2.1 percent over April 2014.

Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City had the largest revenue gain in the Northwest Indiana market, with revenue of $13.4 million for April 2015, a 3 percent increase over April 2014.

Horseshoe Casino reported $36.2 million in revenue with a 6.6 percent drop compared to April 2014. General Manager Dan Nita said this makes the overall drop in Northwest Indiana casino revenue about 1.6 percent. He added the gambling industry has reached a saturation point and the potential opening of a downtown Chicago casino would lead to too much gaming in one area.
