Government officials in Nova Scotia have approved the plan of the Atlantic Lottery Corp. (ALC) to establish online gaming in the province, one of five in which ALC operates.
The lottery is looking to operate online gaming sites in all five of the provinces. Officials with ALC have said the move is necessary to capture gambling revenues currently generated outside the Atlantic provinces. Officials estimate that as much as $100 million leaves Atlantic Canada through offshore websites.
A government spokesperson said funding that was previously dedicated to Gambling Awareness Nova Scotia is being rolled into the overall budget for mental health and addictions.
