The New York Gaming Commission says that four state casinos still owe a total of $14.7 million (and growing) in past oversight fees that have been accumulating since they were first imposed between April 2017 and March 2019.
According to the Comptroller’s Office, the commission failed to bill or collect fees from Rivers Casino & Resort, Lago Resort & Casino, Resorts World, and Tioga Downs Casino. So far none of the fees have been paid.
The balance in uncollected fees appear to be the commission’s fault, rather than the casinos because the commission says insufficient regulations prevented it from billing.
Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli told 10News: “The Gaming Commission must do a better job staying on top of New York’s ever-expanding gaming footprint. The commission should collect all oversight charges that casinos are supposed to cover.” He added, “The commission has made some changes, but it needs to do much more, especially as the state is exploring issuing licenses for three new casinos and recovering from the pandemic.”
