NZ Casino Group Gets $9.4M in New Payroll Subsidies

New Zealand casino operator SkyCity Entertainment Group has received an additional $9.4 million (US$6.2 million) in government wage subsidies, for a total of $31 million over the course of the Covid-19 shutdown.

In a July 13 statement, SkyCity said it had seen a drop in revenue over the past 40 days of more than 40 percent, which is the government-mandated requisite for receiving the subsidies, the New Zealand Herald reported.

The operator said its core domestic gaming business is doing relatively well, but the “employee-heavy areas of hotels, food and beverage, had been slower to pick up,” reported Asia Gaming Brief.

SkyCity, which operates casinos in New Zealand and Australia, was one of the first in the Asia-Pacific region to reopen after Macau.
