Ohio Casinos, Racinos Set January Record

Ohio’s four casinos and seven racinos set a new record with $167 million in net gambling proceeds in January, according to the Ohio Lottery and Casino Control commissions. Gambling revenue increased 19 percent over the previous January record of $140.7 million set in 2019; typical year-to-year gains have come in at 5 percent or less. The state receives about one-third of the revenue as fees or taxes.

Some of the January 2020 increase could be due to an additional Friday. Also, since New Year’s Day fell on a Wednesday this year, many people took time off for the holidays and did not return to work until Monday, January 6.

Hollywood Casino Columbus surpassed the other casinos with $20.4 million in revenue, the Ohio Casino Control Commission reported. MGM Northfield Park led the other slots-only racinos with revenue of $22.9 million, up from $19.6 million in January 2019 when it was operating under its former name, Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park.

JACK Cleveland Casino posted revenue of $18.3 million, up from $15.7 million in January 2019. JACK Thistledown Racino in North Randall reported $11.8 million in revenue, up from $9.7 million.
