In Michigan, the Chocolay Township Planning Commission recently approved the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community’s proposed million expansion at its Ojibwa Casino Marquette. Phase one of construction will begin in late summer and be completed by early December.

General Manager Don Wren said, “You look at some of the other properties around here, you can put anybody’s name on it. This is going to be really unique. When this building is done, it will be completely Ojibwa Casino.” He said the casino floor will double in size, and a 76-room hotel and 1,200-seat arena will be added, plus two signature restaurants. “We will have all kinds of really exciting entertainment, “Wren said.

Ojibwa Casinos Marketing Director Jim Orr added, “We really want it to be a shining jewel in Marquette, something that everyone is proud to come to and bring their friends and family to. That’s what we plan on delivering.”

Casino Manager Sharon Misegan noted, “All of the employees, especially the long-term employees that have been here with me, we’re very excited. We haven’t seen any major renovations here at Marquette since day one, but some paint and some carpet. This has got us really, really excited.”

Ojibwa Casino Baraga also will be renovated inside and out, with work completed by March 2018. Orr commented, “The idea was to completely redesign the properties and bring them into the new millennium, so there’s a much more sleeker, modern feel to the properties and at Marquette it’s a complete rebirth.”
