Weather a factor in delay
Okada Manila, Japanese businessman Kazuo Okada’s self-named resort now in the final stages of construction in Manila’s Entertainment City casino zone, will open in December. According to an official statement by Okada’s Universal Entertainment Corp., the delay is due to bad weather.
“The initial opening of the property, including the hotel, food and beverage outlets, casino and other major attractions, will take place in December,” Okada’s Tiger Resort, Leisure and Entertainment Inc. subsidiary said in a statement. The statement did not include a date, but Andrea Domingo, chairman of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. told Reuters the opening is set for December 21.
The initial $2.4 billion phase of the project, which was originally called Manila Bay Resorts, covers 22 hectares (54 acres) of the overall 44-hectare property. Phase I will include the casino and hotel and food and beverage outlets.
The original soft opening was planned for November. In 2015, PAGCOR fined Tiger $2.2 million and threatened to suspend its permit because of delays in the Entertainment City project.
