Following a data security breach on December 1, officials at the Indigo Sky Casino and Resort in Tulsa, Oklahoma said recently they have contacted individuals who may have been affected.
According to Tulsa World, casino security reported unusual activity on the computer network, identified the issue, began an internal investigation, secured the systems and notified law enforcement.
In addition, the casino hired a forensic security firm to investigate and make sure casino computer systems could not be accessed by outsiders.
Casino officials also mailed notification letters to individuals whose information may have been in the documents. This could have included names, driver’s license numbers, Social Security numbers and medical information.
Officials said the documents accessed by the hackers did not contain banking information or other financial data. The letters also included an offer of complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection services.
In a press release, Indigo Sky said, “As a precautionary measure, individuals should remain vigilant to protect against potential fraud and/or identity theft by, among other things, reviewing their account statements and monitoring credit reports closely. If individuals detect any suspicious activity on an account, they should promptly notify the financial institution or company with which the account is maintained and report any fraudulent activity or any suspected incidents of identity theft to proper law enforcement authorities, including the police and their state’s attorney general.”
