OLG Hires Bede to Revamp Online Lottery

United Kingdom-based Bede Gaming has been hired by Ontario Lottery & Gaming to completely revamp its online lottery platform PlayOLG. The upgrade to a new platform will enable the lottery to offer not only casino and lottery games, but also sports betting.

Ontario Lottery & Gaming (OLG) has hired UK-based Bede Gaming to do a makeover on its online lottery platform PlayOLG, which offers lottery and casino games.

OLG does $2.5 billion a year in lottery sales. Bede, which is new to North America will make a completely new online platform that will go live in early 2020. This is Bede’s largest contract so far. It was named after a “stringent procurement” process that began last year, according to OLG spokesman Dave Pridmore.

Pridmore said, “We are investing in digital technology and product solutions to improve the customer experience and ensure we are responsive to changing customer expectations. The platform Bede will provide will be a central point of integration for OLG’s products and channels.” The new platform will enable the addition of new games and enhance playability.

Bede Gaming Managing Director Alex Butcher said his company would be building a total replacement for the existing platform, which first launched in 2013. OLG has wanted to offer online poker, but until now hasn’t gone very far with the proposal. With the new technology OLG is likely to offer online poker and possibly sports betting.

Bede’s website brags about its ability to add sportsbook: “For operators wanting to launch or add a sportsbook to their brand offering, selecting the right platform partner is the key decision. To launch a differentiated offering, being able to leverage deep integrations with the sportsbook of your choice, as well as use industry leading marketing and reporting tools, is vital.”
