OLG Opens Private Casino Operator Bidding

Three years ago, Ontario Lottery and Gaming announced an ambitious casino expansion plan and said a private operator would be chosen by the end of 2013. That never happened. But bidding recently was opened for a private operator to run casinos in eastern Ontario.

Ontario Lottery and Gaming recently opened bidding for private operators to run casinos in eastern Ontario. Three years ago OLG announced a private operator to run casinos as part of an ambitious expansion plan would be selected by the end of 2013. However, the contract never was put out for bids.

Tony Bitonti, crown corporation spokesperson, said, “It’s not that sexy to talk about procurement and talk about RFPs and RFPQs. So the casino issue perhaps has faded from the public interest, but for the gaming industry, it’s very much alive, and we’re very much interested.”

Bitonti said “in the coming months” he expects a similar process will begin for the five northern Ontario casinos in Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, North Bay, Thunder Bay and Kenora.
