Online Gambling Grows in Spain, Poker Declines

New figures from Spain’s Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego show online gambling increased by 11 percent in the country for the last quarter of 2014, fueled mostly by online casino games. Online poker revenue, however, fell 3.5 percent.

Spain’s online gambling market grew by 11 percent to €254m in the last quarter of 2014 according to figures released by the country’s Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego.

For the three months ending Dec. 31, overall online revenue rose 10.3 percent to €65.6m as gambling turnover rose 26 percent to €1.85b. Sports betting was responsible for €34.3m of that total, while casino gambling grew 8 percent to €11.1m and bingo stayed flat at €2m. Roulette captured 69 percent of casino revenue, well ahead of blackjack (29 percent) and baccarat (1.7 percent).

Poker revenue fell 3.5% to €16.6m, as a rise in tournament poker revenue couldn’t overcome a 20 percent fall in cash games revenue.
