Online Gaming Up in Denmark

Denmark saw a 13 percent increase in online gaming in 2016 according to Danish regulators. The country saw gross gaming revenue of $5.3 billion in 2016.

Danish gambling regulator Spillemyndigheden released figures showing a 13 percent increases in gross gaming revenue from online betting for 2016.

Gross gaming revenue from sports betting and online gambling over the past 12 months amounted to DKK3.7 billion–€5 billion/$5.3 billion—a 13 percent increase over 2015.

Overall, Denmark’s gambling market brought in DKK8.9 billion in 2016, up 6% on the DKK8.4 billion achieved in 2015.

The country’s sports betting market was responsible for DKK2.2 billion in GGR, up 8.8 percent over 2015.

The regulator cited an increase in online slots play as one of the main drivers of online growth, however, bringing in 72 percent of all internet gaming in 2016. Online poker, meanwhile, saw a drop of over 10 percent for the year, coming in at DKK148 million.
