Ontario Calls for Legal Single Event Sports Betting

The provincial government of Ontario is urging the Canadian federal government to legalize single event sports betting. It has the support of major league sports.

The Toronto Sun reported last week that it had obtained a letter from Ontario’s Finance Minister Bill Morneau requesting an amendment to the Criminal Code of Canada to legalize such betting. Currently parlay style betting is allowed on the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) Pro-Line betting system, but single event wagers are not allowed.

Supporters note that 90 percent of the sports wagers placed in Nevada are on single events.
