A potential move of Great Canadian Gaming’s Shorelines Casino to a new location very near the Peterborough city limits has regained traction.
Officials for Cavan Monaghan Township and the city of Peterborough are close to reaching an agreement to extend city sewer and water services to the proposed casino site in the township. In exchange, the city likely would get more than just a share of the casino’s gaming revenues, and that has stalled similar negotiations in the past.
If a deal isn’t reach, the Shorelines Casino likely will proceed with a plan to move the casino inside Peterborough city limits, where it would have the services the casino needs.
If it locates within the city, Cavan Monaghan Township would lose its annual $3 million in casino revenue sharing, making it more likely local officials there are more willing to cut a deal with the city.
If they don’t, Great Canadian Gaming still has a the right to expand and relocate the Shorelines Casino, which would be built on Airport Road, if the township and city finalize the tentative services extension agreement.
If the casino is built in the city, it would be located near its convention center and hotels area, making it an ideal addition.
