Ontario Casino Workers Ready to Strike

Union workers of eight casinos in Ontario owned by Great Canadian Gaming Corp., including the Woodbine racino (l.) were set to go on strike Friday, July 22. The strike was called by the union Unifor, which is seeking higher wages, benefits and pensions. It also wants to convert some part-time jobs to full time.

Unifor, the union representing the eight casinos in the Canadian province of Ontario set a midnight, Friday, July 22 deadline for a strike of the 1,830 workers employed by Great Canadian Gaming Corp.

The union says its priorities are wages, benefits and pensions. It is also seeking to convert part-time jobs into full time.

The casinos involved include Great Blue Heron Casino, Casino Woodbine, Pickering Casino Resort, Casino Ajax, Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands, and Shorelines Casino Peterborough, Elements Casino Mohawk and Elements Casino Brantford.
