The regulated iGaming market of Ontario, Canada now hosts more than 20 online sportsbooks, with more lined up to join them. The market went live April 4.
The most recent operator to join the market is BetVictor, a Gibraltar-based online sports betting company that was the latest to sign an agreement with iGaming Ontario. It is also licensed to operate in the U.K. and Ireland.
Others likely to join the market include Bet99, Betano and Pinnacle. They have their iGaming registrations from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) but have not yet gone live.
Pinnacle said in a release September 12: “Pinnacle.ca will be available to Ontario residents soon, while the operator’s B2B arm Pinnacle Solution has also been approved for its Gaming-Related Supplier registration, allowing it to service Ontario sportsbooks with its trading and risk management services.”
In addition to sportsbooks, about 20 websites offer online casino gaming and poker.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. also operates PROLINE+ outside of the regulated market.
Some operators who haven’t yet entered the market are still taking bets from Ontario residents. This is a situation the government has said that it plans to crack down in the future
AGCO’s new standards will go into effect October 31 and will require applicants for registration to cease unregulated activities. They may have to “shutter their unregulated sites” until they have an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario.
According to AGCO: “Any registrant or applicant that do not meet this Standard (once in force) will be jeopardizing their eligibility to obtain or continue holding an AGCO registration.”
