Oregon City Won’t Press Tribe on Tourism Funds

Oregon’s Coos Bay City Council has voted not to ask the Coquille Indian Tribe, which operates the Mill Casino-Hotel, to pay the tourism funds the tribe would usually pay the city for the third quarter of 2020.

The tribe closed its casino due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and so has no revenues from it since March. Normally it pays between $20,000-$25,000.

The money would normally go the Coos Bay/North Bend Visitors and Convention Bureau (VCB), an intergovernmental agency which markets the area. The tribe is one of the entities that pays into the agency.

The North Bend City Council will vote on a similar measure at its next meeting.
