Oregon Governor Criticized for Casino Junket

Oregon Governor Kate Brown (l.) got a $5,000 donation from the Cow Creek Band on the same day she stayed at the tribe’s Seven Feather Resort. After she announced her opposition to the tribe’s rival’s casino project, she got another $55,000 donation.

True Pundit reported last week that it has uncovered records that show that Oregon Governor Kate Brown and her husband stayed at the Seven Feather Resort, owned by the Cow Creek Band during a government-to-government summit, where she got a $5,000 donation to her reelection campaign.

While there she had a private breakfast with tribal chairmen and charged her hotel stay to taxpayers. She obtained the donation from the tribe the same day and shortly thereafter announced that she opposed the Coquille Indian Tribe’s proposed casino. The Cow Creek Band says its casino revenues will drop 13.2 percent if that casino is built.

After Brown made the announcement the Cow Creek Band donated another $55,000 to her campaign, and also donated to the Oregon Democratic party.

The governor took office after the previous governor resigned under an influence peddling scandal.
