Oregon’s sports betting increased 84.1 percent in August over July.
Sports betting in the state is run by the Oregon Lottery. In August the total handle was $25,845,403 compared to $14,042,425. That is still a fraction of what other states that offer sportsbook took in during August. Example: West Virginia’s August sports handle was $40.4 million, a 120.1 percent increase over the previous month.
However, Oregon’s dramatic numbers were similar to what other states have experienced as sports has come back and casinos reopened.
The sports bet on the most during August was basketball, probably because the Portland Trail Blazers resumed play in August.
The Oregon Lottery has experienced some problems with bettors attempting to place wagers on the NFL using the Lottery’s Scoreboard application. Earlier in 2020 Scoreboard had to be taken down for a time due to a cyberattack. The Lottery said no customer data was compromised.
