Osage Narrows Casino Location to Cuba

Cuba is the name of the town where the Osage Nation wants to open the first tribal casino in Missouri. Osage Casinos CEO Byron Bighorse made the announcement last week in Cuba’s city hall.

The Osage Nation has narrowed its choice of locations to build a casino in Missouri from three towns to just one: Cuba. Osage Casinos CEO Byron Bighorse revealed the tribe’s choice to a group of community leaders, government officials and others at the Cuba City Hall last week.

The tribe had been looking at locations in Cuba, Kimberling City and Lake of the Ozarks since 2016, according to a report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The casino would be the first Indian casino in the state of Missouri. It would also be the “flagship” for other tribal enterprises, said Bighorse. The process is not a simple one. It would require getting approval from the residents of Cuba, the governor of the state and the Bureau of Indian Affairs and could take many years.

Bighorse said the tribe would only build in Cuba if residents approved. “We won’t build where we’re not wanted,” he said.
