Osage Nation Buys Historic Bank

The Osage Nation has purchased three commercial properties in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, including the First National Bank Building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The purchase, for a total of $272,283, also included a former pharmacy and a former restaurant.

The Osage Nation recently purchase three commercial properties–the historic First National Bank Building, the former Irby’s Pharmacy and the former Hernandez restaurant–at the Pawhuska Business Development Center in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. The tribe paid a total of 2,283, lower than the appraised value of the properties. Local and tribal officials attended the closing ceremonies, including Osage Nation Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear who said, “We need to start paying ourselves rent instead of other people.”

The tribe occupies more than 90 percent of the office space at the four-story, 25,540 square foot historic bank, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
