The start of the NFL football season last month sent the nascent Pennsylvania sports betting market to new levels, as operators recorded nearly $200 million in wagers for September.
According to numbers released by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, around $195 million in bets were recorded in September by Pennsylvania retail and online sports books, nearly double the $109 million in wagers recorded in August. According to the board, the wagers generated a total of $15 million in revenue, with two-thirds of that generated through online bets.
After launching later than some sportsbooks, FanDuel already is dominating the market, with more than $89 million of the handle. That number comes in large part from FanDuel’s mobile sports betting app.
FanDuel generated more than a third of all state sports betting revenue—$5.1 million. SugarHouse Sportsbook came in second with almost $38 million in handle. When combined with its sister property in Pittsburgh, Rivers Casino, handle approaches $70 million. Both casinos/sportsbooks are under the Rush Street Gaming umbrella. They combined for almost $5 million in revenue, $2.9 million by SugarHouse.
