Following a year that has seen politics as usual turned on its head, Paddy Power has asked no less a disrupter than Nigel Farage for advice on recruiting someone to head Trump Betting, a micro-site of the Irish bookmaking giant whose top job is currently up for grabs.
“After a disastrous year of political cock-ups?two words for you: Brexit and Trump?we are determined not to make the same mistakes again in 2017 and have turned to a political heavyweight to guide us,” the company said.
Farage’s job is to revitalize Paddy Power’s approach to political betting.
“So Paddy Power lost $4.5 million on Trump’s election last year?another example of EU-based idiocy,” he said. “Clearly, they need help?and independence from the anti-Trump narrative that has dogged their thinking recently. As the only British politician with a direct line to the Donald?sorry, Theresa!?I’m the perfect man to lead this recruitment initiative.”
The man who bested the polls in leading the referendum drive in the UK to withdraw from the European Union?and who successfully defied conventional wisdom in predicting Donald Trump’s presidential election victory? has already made wide-ranging changes to the site.
“For instance, given the Donald’s blistering start to his time in office, I’ve recommended that Paddy Power scrap their impeachment market?it’s clearly not going to happen,” Farage said.
He’s also slashed the price on Trump making it to a second term (to 10/11 from 13/8). And he’s advocated paying out early on the U.S. building a Mexican border wall this year; and he’s shut down all markets on the scandal in which it’s alleged that Trump campaign officials colluded with the Russian government to hack Democratic Party computer networks and disrupt the campaign of rival Hillary Clinton?“fake news,” according to Farage, echoing an infamous Trump tweet.
“I’m sure the irony of Nigel taking a job in the EU isn’t lost on him, but we’re looking forward to channeling his expertise,” a Paddy Power spokesman said. “He’s already made his mark on our approach. Here’s hoping he doesn’t resign within a week.”
