Paddy Power Shutters 21 Irish Shops

The Irish sportsbook company Paddy Power has closed 21 wagering shops in Ireland.

This will cause 78 staff members to lose their jobs, iGaming Business reported October 4. However, most will be offered redeployment to other Paddy Power shops.

According to Flutter UK and Ireland, which owns Paddy Power, it is shutting down underperforming shops, including Dominick Street Galway, Kilkenny, Rathdrum and Templemore.

The shutdowns leave 230 Paddy Power shops operating in Ireland.

David Newton, the company’s chief commercial officer, stated: “As with all businesses in the retail sector, we regularly review our estate to ensure we are operating efficiently and meeting the evolving needs of our customers.”

He added, “Indeed, a well-invested retail estate remains a key component of our omnichannel strategy.
