PAGCOR to SunCity: Not So Fast on Junket Takeover

Junket operator SunCity Group is in trouble with the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. because it took over VIP operations at the casino at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza (l.) without permission.

Regulator must sign off on transfer

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. has scolded the SunCity Group junket operator for assuming control of a Success Vine Holdings casino license without permission from the regulator.

According to CalvinAyre.com, Success Vine obtained a license to conduct junket operations at the casino in a three-year deal, which started in August 2014. When SunCity Group took over the operations, PAGCOR Chairwoman Andrea Domingo warned that the junket operator could put the license at risk.

“Sun City is not licensed by PAGCOR to conduct junket operations at Sofitel Philippine Plaza,” Domingo said. “In view thereof, we demand a written explanation why Success Vine allowed Sun City to conduct blessing and soft opening ceremonies last week. Such act may be considered a ground for suspension or termination by PAGCOR pursuant to the agreement.”
