Palaszczuk: No Gold Coast ‘Casino City’

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk (l.) says there’s room for just one more casino resort on Australia’s Gold Coast, the AU$3 billion complex to be developed by the Chinese-backed ASF Consortium.

Is Caesars in the mix?

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has said there will be one new casino resort on the Gold Coast, the AU$3 billion integrated resort planned for the Southport Spit by Chinese-backed ASF Consortium.

According to the Gold Coast Bulletin, Palaszczuk told local media, “There’s only so many casinos we can have on the Gold Coast—I don’t think we need to have this a casino city. There’s only one casino license available on the Coast at the moment and our government is going through due process in relation to ASF.”

The Gold Coast region in Queensland currently hosts one casino: the Star Gold Coast, formerly Jupiters, now in the midst of an AU$1 billion renovation.

Palaszczuk made the comments after Nevada-based gaming Caesars Entertainment announced talks with ASF Consortium over the project, which has not yet broken ground. ASF is awaiting the release of public comments compiled in an April study.
