Pansy Ho: Macau Will Keep Current Operators

Pansy Ho, daughter of legendary casino boss Stanley Ho and co-chairperson of MGM China Holdings Ltd., says the government of Macau should lengthen the license terms of the city’s current casino concessionaires. Their licenses are due to expire in 2020 and 2022.

Pansy Ho Chiu King, co-chairperson of MGM China Holdings Ltd., says the government of Macau should extend casino license terms in the interest of market stability.

The daughter of casino honcho Stanley Ho told the Hong Kong Standard, “The timeline should be lengthened. The fundamental principle should not be altered. Otherwise, how can Macau attract long-term investments? If the payback period is too short, no one will be interested.”

She also seemed confident that the government will not move to oust any operator that “puts great effort and capital into the business.” Those operators are now facing a “midterm review.”

“I don’t believe the government won’t let them survive,” said Ho. Despite the recent emphasis on a more diversified economy, “I think the government knows very well that Macau’s economic growth is largely driven by the gaming business,” she said.
