Paragon Making Moves in BC

Paragon Gaming, fresh after taking over operations at the Westgate Las Vegas, have begun construction on the $600 million Parq Vancouver casino resort (l.) in Canada’s British Columbia, a project five years in the making.

Mere months after the sale of the Riviera to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, operator Paragon Gaming is indeed making moves. Paragon took over operations of the Westgate Las Vegas earlier this month, and has begun construction on the massive 0 million Parq Vancouver hotel-casino complex, in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. The complex will feature the new Edgewater Casino and BC’s first ever JW Marriott hotel.

The project, which has been in the works for several years, was seen as a bit over-ambitious by locals, who disapproved of the resort, ultimately leading to the Vancouver city council to reject the plans. In 2013, Paragon agreed to scale back the casino a bit, which gave the project a new life.

Initially, the casino was set to house 1,100 slot machines and 200 table games. The recent plan sees the 72,000 square-foot casino containing only 600 slot machines, and 75 table games. The complex will be adjacent to the 60,000-seat BC Place Stadium, home to the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League, and near the 18,630-seat Rogers Arena, home to the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League.

Three restaurants, bars, a spa and 62,000 square feet of conference and meeting space. Scott Menke, president of Paragon, said, “We are excited to build a landmark that will maintain the integrity of Vancouver’s unique local culture and are thrilled to see this important resort come to life in the coming months.”

Paragon also operates the Edgewater in Vancouver, which will be closed, and the River Cree Resort near Edmonton, Alberta.
