Paraguay Mulls Raising Gaming Tax

The Ministry of Finance of the South American nation of Paraguay has included a tax reform next year that includes a tax on gaming.

Unlike many other nations that were hammered financially by the pandemic, Paraguay’s tax revenues are so far about the same as last year.

The government forecasts collecting $156.7 million, about the same as in 2019.

Deputy Minister of Taxation, Oscar Orué commented during a radio interview: “Our taxes aren’t that high and that also helps people to comply with their tax obligations. It also adds to the flexibilities that we had previously announced and that are currently a great help.”

Besides a tax on gaming, the government is also considering a new tax on income of non-residents for digital services.
