Mickey Parenton, general manager at L’Auberge Casino Hotel in Baton Rouge, Louisiana since it opened in September 2012, announced he will leave his position in October, when Penn National Gaming acquires Pinnacle Entertainment, the parent company of L’Auberge. Parenton said he declined Penn National’s offer of a position at its Pennsylvania headquarters. “I decided for the best interest of my family that after 24 years it’s a good time to reevaluate what I want to do. But it’s been a great ride, particularly in Baton Rouge and at L’Auberge. Baton Rouge has opened its arms to us and accepted us,” Parenton said.
Parenton arrived in Baton Rouge in 2009 and helped open L’Auberge. Previously he served as general manager at the now-closed Flamingo Casino, which was docked at the Hilton Hotel in downtown New Orleans, and at Beau Rivage on in Biloxi. He also reopened Harrah’s Casino in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.
Parenton said his future career plans are uncertain but they will not involve gaming. “Potentially hospitality or entertainment, but I don’t think I’ll be back in gaming. This business takes a lot of time and effort. I plan to be spending more time with family,” he said.
