After years of achieving government approvals and community support, the Parq Vancouver opened last week in the downtown area of the British Columbia metropolis, adjacent to the Rogers Centre arena and BC Place stadium. The 0 million project is owned by Paragon Gaming, the Dundee Corporation and the PBC Group.
Parq is the largest public development ever completed in British Columbia and include a 329-room JW Marriot Hotel, a 188-room Douglas Hotel, eight restaurant and lounge concepts conceived by award-winning restaurateur Elizabeth Blau and Chef Kim Canteenwalla, a 72,000-square foot casino and 60,000 square feet of meeting space, including Vancouver’s largest ballroom.
The project is built to LEED Gold standards with a uniquely vertical multi-tower design that occupies a boutique-scale footprint, creating a seamless connection to downtown’s entertainment district and surrounding neighborhoods.
The project was designed by architect Maxime Frappier, built by Tishman Inc. and a large casino bathed in natural light that includes four private gaming salons with balconies and views of downtown Vancouver.
More than 10 years in the making, the Parq includes public art installations, many created by First Nation artists.
“Vancouver is on a world stage, an international stage, and so we had to come up with the right vision,” said Paragon Gaming Co-Founder Scott Menke.
The other founder behind Paragon is Diana Bennett, who will be inducted into the AGA Gaming Hall of Fame this week at G2E in Las Vegas.
“We’ve listened long and hard to what the community of Vancouver is looking for,” said Bennett.
