Gaming and hospitality firm Peermont Hotels, Casinos and Resorts has agreed to acquire the Emerald Resort & Casino in Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng, South Africa from Nevada-based Caesars Entertainment.

According to a May 15 statement from the company, Emerald Resort enjoys a “prime location on the banks of the Vaal River,” and is “perfectly aligned with Peermont’s primary objective of creating premium leisure and gaming experiences for its customers.”

Peermont operates 11 casino resorts across southern Africa, Emerald Resort will “seamlessly fit into our core business areas,” said Peermont CEO Nigel Atherton. “It presents great opportunity for growth and development and an additional benefit is that Emerald will now be able to offer a wider range of rewards through our Winners Circle loyalty program.”

Emerald has been operating since 1997 and has a 77-room hotel and 430 gaming machines on its casino floor, along with 22 tables. It also has an Aquadome water park, amusement park, spa and several restaurants.

The sale must be approved by the Gauteng Gambling Board and the Competition Authority. Caesars will continue to operate the property until the transaction is complete in the third quarter of 2019.
