Peninsula Pacific Considers New Louisiana Casino

Peninsula Pacific recently announced its intention to develop a $250 million waterfront casino in Slidell, Louisiana, a suburb of New Orleans.

Chief Executive Officer Brent Stevens said the company hopes to break ground later this year and open in mid-2023. Based in Los Angeles, Peninsula Pacific holds a casino license in Bossier City for the DiamondJacks Casino, which closed for good last year due to the impact of Covid-19. At the time, officials said they were weighing options for possibly moving that license.

Stevens said 100-acre property in Slidell “is the best single casino development site” he’s ever seen. The facility would include a 250-room hotel.

For the casino to become a reality, several steps would have to occur. The state legislature would have to pass a bill, St. Tammany Parish residents would have to vote to undo the 1996 referendum in which they rejected casinos and video poker and then approve the Slidell casino. This time around, the proposal has the support of the parish president and council president.

Peninsula Pacific owns del Lago Casino in New York, Hard Rock Sioux City in Iowa and Colonial Downs in Virginia.
